I am so blessed that these four beautiful great grandbabies live close enough to come for dinner
at least once a month or more. Miss having my others live close enough to see them.
If they did believe me my days would be full of all of our wonderfull babies.
I miss them all and sometimes feel bad that they will never really
know Grampy and me as well as these four do.
Last night Sadie just didn't want to leave and
was having such a good time playing
the teddy bears and little toys.

Last week my cousin Jeannette and Geoff visited us. They are from Sorrington in Sussex England.
Jeannette is th granddaughter of Frederick Smith who was the brother of my grandfather
Percy Smith. We had fun going over genealogy while Bill and Geoff had a good visit.
They were staying in LongBeach at the Hyatt so we went there and traveled
around Long Beach to see where grandpa Smith lived.
We went to the Long Beach historical society and found information about him
and his other brother Leopold' s real estate business in 1904.
We had fun with Jan and Geoff and really enjoyed them.
Just wish they lived closer. However they have a
beautiful home in the country with lots of
trees and green grass. It looks just like you would
expect an english home would be like.
Would love to visit some time.
It was a fun 4 days!!!!!

Much prettier looking at the real think as pictures aren't the best
but the purple Iris and the little pink blossoms plus the tall pink foxglove make it
colorful. There is an artichoke plant in the corner of the secone picture but it isn't
doing as well as the one on the side yard. Guess Spring has finally arrived!!!!
Oh, the tree in the bottom picture is a redbud tree and the leaves are shaped like
hearts.

Meet Mr. and Mrs. Toni Weis

Julianne and Toni got married today in New York City. I am so happy for them and excited to see them when they visit Orange in June. Congratulations to a very special granddaughter and a new grandson.

When we moved to Orange County in 1961 we lived in Villa Park. We lived in a little craftsman house that
was a Sears and Roebuck catalog house in 1905. It was built by a family called Holditch and they owned
the Orange grove on Wanda Road that can be seen on the left side of the picture. The Fitchens owned the
house across the street form that we lived in and the 8 acres of orange grove
that surrounded our house. They had move into another house on Lincoln that was closer to the
corner of Wanda and Lincoln. When Bob, Dave and Dan were in school
they would go to Bruno's market on the way home and get candy etc. I could run up there
for milk or bread etc. instead of having to go to Alpha Beta on
the corner of Collins and Tustin. (when I was in a hurry!)We now live on Wanda road
between Katella and Collins and just south of Lincoln st. This picture is on the corner of Wanda
and Katella. You can see the railroadtracks on the left side of the picture. They ran right down
the street in front of our house. Wanda was only
2 lanes wide and Katella was only 2 lanes wide with houses on both sides of the street. We really lived in the
country then. Villa Park incorporated and became a city at the time we moved there. It is now celebrating
it's 50 years as a city. Where we live now used to be Villa Park and Bruno's was in
Villa Park but when the city incorprated it divided Wanda Road in the middle and everything west
of the center of wanda road was Orange soif Bruno's was still here it would be Orange not Villa Park.
All has changed so much and now all of the orange groves are gone. The streets are 4 lanes and
there are traffic lights on the corners.The house we live in on Lincoln is gone and it is now
a street with houses on all land where the groves were.
We had eucaleptus (sp) trees dividing all of the groves
and down the streets. You can see the ones behind Bruno's market.

These were the good ole days. We didn't even own a key to the front door!

This is a picture that I found this morning while I was doing some straightening in the cupboard. Hard to
believe they have grown up so fast. They were so cute and all ready for church. I remember that they spent the night
with us and David and Lauren were coming by to pick them up and take them to church.

Merry Christmas. We have a tradition at our house and all of the grandchildren that are here dress in costumes and act out the Nativity scene while someone reads the story. So many of our grandchildren have moved out of state that the ones that are still here in California continue our tradition. I think that they will always remember. After dinner and the story Santa comes and brings goodies for all. We don't have a big family here now but we still have fun and love them all near and far.
Our baby in 1982 was Julianne and all the rest of the children in the picture are now married with children of their own that are in the other pictures.

Today is Bill's Birthday. He didn't want anything to celebrate it but we are doing it anyway. What good is having a

favorite potatoes. Made him his favorite cake "pineapple upside down." Need to go get some whipping cream and
everything will be ready. Linda is coming over so there will just be the four of us. We will have fun celebrating

Elliott and Leslie have both worked on our family ancestry. Elliott is really dong so right now. There are some interesting stories and pictures. It is fun to go back and see where everyone in the family fits in and how far back the lines of both Parker, Potter and Smith go. In reading and looking I have found things I knew nothing about. Verrry interesting. Read about James Parker. Sue Franz Haltom is going to the Chico University to look in the archives of the Chico Enterprise and see what else she can find about the problems James had. We had a birthday dinner for Katy and Annie. Fun time with all of us. The birthday candle was a hit as it was a sparkler and you can see from Katy's face she liked it. Wish you could have seen all of the kids faces. Should have gotten pictures of all of them. I made Annie her dress and she had to put it on right away. It would be so much fun if all of the family could get together for birthdays but know that is not possible. I can dream though!

Potato Soup

5 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1/2 cup celery, chopped 5 slices bacon chopped
2 cans Swanson Chicken Broth
1 qt 1/2 & 1/2
S & P to taste
1/2 c Swiss cheese grated.
A few T of Potato flakes

Place potatoes in pan with 2 cans of chicken broth. Cook till tender.
In the meantime saute bacon until slightly crisp and set aside. Drain
all but 1 T fat from pan and saute celery and onon till tender.
When potatoes are tender add vegetables and bacon. Pour in 1/2 & 1/2.
Mix potato flakes with some of warm 1/2 &1/2-add to soup if it is not
thick enough add some more potato flakes mixed with some more of warm
1/2 &1/2.

You can add cream corn for corn chowder or clams for clam chowder.
I usually put some of soup in blender and then back into the pot.

Really good served with sour dough bread buttered and warmed .

Goodness time goes fast and now it is the middle of January. We have been busy cleaning up Christmas decorations and finding a place to put them all. The house always looks so bare when they are all put away. Good time to deep clean before putting other things out. Bill has been cleaning out the file cabinet and shredding old papers before he starts our income tax. I have been cleaning drawers and getting everything put away in our new closet. Do love have a closet to hang my clothes. The remodel has made the downstairs as comfortable as it was upstairs. Don't miss my room upstairs now.
Next week I will make some things for Stephanie's baby and get them made before he arrives.
Then it will be Ginger and Mimi. Lots of new babies! Amy's is due the end of this month or the first week in Feb. She is having her first girl after 3 boys.
Baseball is starting at Chapman soon and so Bill will be busy going to those games. Tonight is a basketball game and of course he will go to that as well as the girl's game tomorrow. He does love Chapman athletics. Sometime I go and sometimes I don't.
Just read Julianne's blog and am excited for her to go to Germany and live. I know she wants to be with Tony and have a normal relationship. Wish we could have met him but all the family really like him and of course if Joojie picked him he must be special. Happy for her.
Rain here all next week and we really need it. At least it isn't really cold and no snowy.
Will try to post some pictures next time.

These pictures didn't come out real clear. It was a great evening with all of the kiddos. Max wore a brown outfit to dinner because he wanted to be the donkey. Emma was Mary and Joseph was Jack. Ethan wore the funny colored hair wig for one of shepherd and Sadie wore a crown to be a king. Sophie was the angel. Annie was an angel too. Max sang a solo and so did Annie. All climaxed when Santa rang the bells and they ran to see what he had brought. Oh, because Andrew doesn't believe he was a good sport and played along. He also did a great job of reading the story.
Dinner was tamales, salad, chocolate nutty cake and choc chip mint icecream. It was so wonderful having Elliott here and was a great surprise. Hope we mad some memories.

Some of the trees that I decorated for the Orange Republican Women Federated's Holiday Fantasy.
They raffel them off and with all of the other trees that others have decorated it is a good fund raiser.
There are 30 trees in all and I only have done 5. Don't have a picture of the last one but these were
my favorites. The silver/blue one is the presidents tree and each of the past presidents donates $25.00
and I will put 20$ bills in clear balls and hang them on the tree. This one brings in the most money.
Just glad they are all done.

Barbara and Betty at Grandma and Grandpa Smiths at Christmas. I think I was 8 years old but don't remember. We loved these dolls and grandma made the dresses and knit the sweater, caps and booties. I remember one time Betty insisted that "toodles" had a cold and she rubbed vicks all over her chest. From that day on we could tell which doll was which and which was hers and which was mine. The vicks really discolored the clothe body of the doll . Grandma always gave us a new doll at Christmas.
The pictures was taken on the board walk in front of the house. You can see a bit of the Christmas tree in the window. The house was on the Pennisula in Long Beach with Alamitos bay on one side and the ocean on the other. One time during a terrible story before Long Beach put in the breakwater a big log was washed up by the huge waves and it went right through the front window. They don't have tides anymore since the breakwater.

The copies she sent were a bit larger but it takes a lot of room and printing so I condensed them. I haver seen any of these pictures before and the last time I say Grandpa Smith was in 1947.

Another old picture. This is the house on 4th street downtown Long Beach, Ca that Emily Potter owned.
She lived in the apartment on the rt of the picture and Aunt Blanche lived in the apt on the left. I remember visiting when I was about 5 years old. It was a different kind of place because it had 1 toilet downstairs in the back hall for the downstairs apts to use and 1 upstairs for the upstairs apts. I remember it being dark and the toilet seat was a funny color of black or dark brown. I did not like to use it unless veryyyyy necessary. Great Grandma always had cookies but we had to have oatmeal first. The very small kitchen was had very dark wood cupboards and wood drain boards. There was a pull down bed in the living room. I don't remember if there was a bedroom. Great grandma was always in her rocking chair. She had very white hair that was a little bit yellow and and my mother said that it was because she only washed it once a month or longer. She always had on a long black dress with a white lace collar. I remember the funniest things but I was only 5 when she passed away.
In the summer when my mother was young they would visit great grandma and from there they would go to the pike or the beach. I think in some of the pictures you can see my mother and Aunt Lucille in front on the steps.
There are new apts there now and I went down a couple of years ago to see the house and get pictures but it has been torn down and the apts were build. This is the only I have and it was sent to me by a cousin.

This is Obediah Wellington Rose and Emily Pinney with their children. This must have been about 1992 or 3 as Peal who is in the center was 3 years old when they came to California and Obediah has passed away before that. I know that Olive and Blanche were the other 2 girls and Carl was one of the boys.

My cousin Eleanor Martinez in Arizona sent me these pictures. She is the grandaughter of Dorothy MacDonald Aunt Blanche's daughter.

This is a picture of Pearl Rose Potter, Blanche Rose MacDonald and Olive Rose DeRemer. They are 3 sisters. Pearl is the youngest and Olive is the oldest. I remember all three of them and used to visit Aunt Olive in San Fernando. Uncle Ed and Aunt Olive had an orange grove and I remember Uncle Ed getting up very early in the morning to set out the smuge pots. After the 1933 earthquake in Long Beach my mother, sister and I lived at their house for a good 6 months.

This is my mother's sister, Lucille Potter Miller, Dorothy MacDonald(Aunt Blanche's Daughter), someone named Vera who I don't know and Evelyn, my mother. This picture is in Long Beach down by the Pier. I love to look at the clothes and notice the bathing suits on the people in the background.

A cousin in Arizona sent me these pictures of our family. I had never seen a picture of Obediah Wellington Rose before.
He died when Pearl Potter (my grandmother) was 3 years old. This was before the Pinney family left Missouri by covered wagon and came to California. She has more pictures to send so I will blog them when I get them. I am not sure of the date on any of these or just when Emily married Mr. Roberts. After they were divorced or he passed away (I am not sure which) she married A J Potter,who was Milo Potter's father. This made Grandma Pearl and Grandpa Milo step brother and sister as well as man and wife. I know that Emily did not marry A J Potter untill some time after Pearl and Milo had been married for some years. Family history has so many stories.

Haven't posted anything on my blog for quite a while so decided I should. The month of June was a busy one. We went to Colorado for Chelsey's wedding and then tried to play catch up when we got home. The wedding was special even though there was rain,hail, ligtning and thunder. I was told by my therapist that a tradition in Mexico was that if it rained on your wedding day you would have a long and fruitful marriage. So Chelsey and Brad it sounds good for you.

When we came home we got busy moving fom the upstairs bedroom to the downstairs one. It was hard for me to do as we had such a comfortable one up there. No fireplace, no closet , 1 chest of drawers and not as much room besides the bathroom has 1 sink and is a bit crowed for 2 people. As David said I need to be flexible and make things work. We bought a portable closet to hang clothes and I put my other things in the cupboards in the bathroom. If I want something that isn't downstairs Dad has to go up and get it for me. After 3 months of not being up there I have forgotten just what is there. We bought a new mattress set so I can sleep in the bed instead of the hospital bed. Life does change and I am trying to be Flexible. Somehow it will have to work even though I don't like it.

Love reading the blogs and keeping up with the ones of you who keep them up. Of course I am guilty for not doing it either and will try to get better. Really have no excuse.

My father had 2 sisters, Aunt Dorothy and Aunt Winifred. Last night I recieved a phone call from a lady who had found me on google she asked me some questions. She caought me up on my 2 aunts and had questions regarding my father.
My Aunt Dorothy married at the age of 50 and has since passed away and she had no children. I had not seen her since I was 12 years old. Aunt Winifred had 2 girls. Lynn and Cameron. Aunt Winifred has since passed awayalso. I had no way of connecting with any of my cousins as I didn't even know their names. The phone call turned out to be my first cousin Cameron Pilchard Kelsey. For years I have wondered where these 2 cousins were but I couldn't trace them because I didn't know their names. I did know that the oldest one was named Lynn and I did see her once when she was a baby. Cameron was born when I was about 15 and I didn't know anything about her except that she was Lynn's sister. Anyway, it was rather exciting to finally know where they are and what their names are. Lynn lives in Santa Maria and Cameron lives in Prescott, Arizona. We talked on the phone today and Cameron is going to send me some pictures etc. of the family. I only have 5 formal pictures of Grandma and Grandpa Smith and my 2 aunts and my dad. Not only that but I really didn't know any of the history of the Smith family so she said she would catch me up on some history. She did say that she had the names of Grandpa Smith's mother and father and a picture of Grandpa and his brothers and sisters. I didn't know he even had any. I can then forward it to Leslie as she is keeping all of the family records. I know that on the Smith's side of the family there were only my sister and I and Lynn and Cameron. On the Potter side there was my cousin Glenn and My Sister and I. Glenn has since passed away also. No one else is probably interested but I have a mystery solved!

Matt and the kids came to our house on Sunday and brought a delicious dinner that Katy had made.

Sadie loved the cake and had all of her fingers int and then proceeded to suck her fingers with all of the frosting and cake. Needless to say she loved it!!!!

I have a cupie doll and we all think that Sadie looks just like it.

Bob was helping Max and Jack to a second helping of cake.
You can tell by their faces that they loved it.
A fun time was had by all!!!!!

Isn't it pretty? My friend gave me quite a few Irises and they are now starting to bloom. Many different colors. He will give me some more when it comes time to divide them. He has a whole garden full of these beautiful flowers. When I was in the hospital he brought me a gorgeous bouquet of Iris and roses.

it has been a while since i have blogged. things have bee pretty busy and the year started out kind of crazy. the best was getting to visit the horns in tx , even though it was for a root canal by my wonderful grandson neal. that turned iut just fine but it was feb before the crown was on and it was all finished. the rest of feb was pretty uneventful and then on the 3rd of mar i let curiosity get the best of me. you know the saying curiosity killed the cat! well, some workmen were putting cones in the street and of course i wondered why. soooo as i was hurrying out the front door my foot came out of my shoe on the second step and i went flying onto the brick walk.
God did not intend for us to fly like that and i can attest to that. i couldn't move and am so glad that bill was home. he called the paramedics ad they delivered me to ER at kaiser. soon everyone knew i had fallen. the paramedics were friends with others i knew and the phone calls started coming the next day. anyway it tuned out i broke my pelvis and my right arm. not fuN.
the good part though it wasn't my hip! the best part is that all of my family called and i got to talk to them. now it is just taking time to heal. i will!!!!!!
bob built railings on the front porch and i Will USE THEM. will blog a picture later because tey look really great and were a lot of work. they should have been there in the beginning. of course i would have been hurrying and not used them. no more! next month will be MUCH better.

The last 3 days was so much fun. I was able to spend the time with these adorable little ones and Leslie and Neal. It was a good time and Neal did a root canal for me too. Leslie took me to Audrey and Parker's school and we had lunch with Audrey in the lunchroom. Then we took sa ride to where there is a house being built that they are interested in. It was a quick trip but i loved being able to see them all and really giving them some hugs. It was a great and wonderful 3 days.

he is bigger than his dad we forget that he is only 12. He and Milo spent some time together
playing Tyler's new wii game. We enjoyed him as we have not seen him much in

Merry Christmas!!! What a beautiful day, even though it is raining. We have so much to be grateful for.
The Matt Parker's was here for Christmas Eve dinner and our usual pagent in costume of the manger scene Santa ringing the bells as he left and running upstairs to see if he filled the stockings.
Rob and Breanne came by in the morning about 11:30 in the morning and and left Emeri and Broxton then they left for the hospital. At 7:15 Christmas Eve they gave us a new great grandson. Matt and Katy were here so there was alot of excitment.

Matt and Katy had some last minute things to do so they left the babies with us so we had 6 babies to love for the day. Tyler was here for a visit and he really helped with all of the little ones. He has turned into such a nice, gentle boy.

After everyone left- (Rob's parents came after Emeri and Broxton to take them home to their own beds) we went to the hospital to meet Kaius. what a beautiful baby boy. This of course is not unusual as all of our babies are beautiful.

We miss all of the rest of our family but you are in our thoughts and we know you will all have a wonderful day. Love you all.

This was about 1954-55. Notice the very large TV in the

corner. The tree was decorated with large cookies that

we decorated. The pattern for the cookies were taken

from color books and then painted with a paint brush and

frosting. The boys would put all of the cookies out on

Christmas eve before they went to bed and Santa would

bring a tree and on Christmas morning low and behold there

was a decorated tree with all of the packages underneath.

It was a fun tradition and lasted for quite a few years.

Now all 3 of these little boys are grandfathers. Where did

the time go?????

Elves and Faries

Our Christmas tree with all of the silly elves.
They just sit there and look around. I think that they like it
because they are up high and can see the whole room.

The faries, Charlie and Liley ( Annie and Jack named them), brought a
small fairy Christmas tree. We woke up one morning and there it was.
I am not sure how they got it though their little fairy door but it is really
pretty and they look like they like it too.

The Nutcrackers didn't see them either but then I am not
sure they could tell us anyway.

Today is a special day!!!!!Our 25th great grandchild entered the world. Her mommy and daddy are Cashel and James McCrory. Her wt was 8lbs 9 oz. I am sure Cashel will send out announcements. Chelsey has put it on facebook for those who read it. Hopefull pictures will be coming.
Luke Parker and new baby Cali Faith have the same birthday only Luke is 2 and Cali is brand new!
Breanne is due soon so we will be patiently waiting to hear the news from her. She hasn't found out whether she is having a boy or a girl. As she has one of each either will be wonderful.

This is a note to the members of my wonderful family. Thank you all for making this one of the very best weekends of my life. This was the first time that all of us have been together and I hope it isn't the last but one never knows. The cousins all had a good time playing together and I so enjoyed watching them. Many of our friends know we have a large family but they could really see them this weekend. I know it was a effort financially and otherwise for you all to be here but I just want you ALL to know how very much you are appreciated and loved. I am truly blessed.

Grampy's 80th birthday. We had a quiet celebration with a delicious dinner and birthday cake. Our friends
Barbara and Lou Mahony came and Milo (who was a treat to see) Virsan, and Bob. Bob barbequed delicious filet steaks for dinner. He made his own concoction for a marinating sauce and it was very very good. Everyone called at dinner time, David, Les, Breanne, and a few other friends. It is a Master of on of Stan Kentons albums and a picture of him, an autograph and two concert ticket stubs dated sept 13 1938 in Boston Mass. Had to be one of first concerts. Just had to share!

in the cockpit and it looks like Bill on the tiller????? Those were fun days. Especially when Bob was on the tiller and heeled the boat over very far. Sure he like to hear me scream ! Remember when we went out to meet the Queen Mary and it was soooo windy we had to head back. Remember our days spent at little harbor in Catalina. How about getting caught in the fog off of the coast. Or pilling into Woody's Warf and David trying to keep the boat from ramming into the bow sprit of a docked boat. Many memories. I am sure the boys have more.

They are staying for a few days with Ginger's parents before they go home to Ind. It was good to see them one

This summer has been a good one so far. First Heather came to visit with Cayden and then this week Stephanie came to visit with Mabel. Oliver and Stella. This was the first time I have seen Stella and been able to hold her. She is very huggable and delicious. Mabel and Oliver made a late birthday cake for Mike and we all sang happy birthday. All 3 are darling and kept themselves entertained so beautifully. Grampy built block houses with them and grammy made a book for Stella to color in. She is quite an artist and may grow up to be one. Who knows! Oliver is as cute as a button and probably the quietest little boy that I have ever been around. He loved all of the cars and the helicopter.
They left after dinner tonight to drive back to Arizona. We will see them again in a week or so in Sundance. All of David's grandchildren will be there. 14, 8 years and younger plus their mommies and daddy's. It will be quite an event. It wasn't hard to say goodby this time as we will see them again up there. The faries, Charlie and Liliy, were visiting and Mabel watched them carefully because she said that Liley's eyes moved. They did bring them a couple of surprises like good faries do. They found them everytine the flew to a new place.

We have a fairy door at our house that the faries use to come and visit us. They are the only ones that can open the door. Annie and Jack have named them Charley and Liley. Sometimes they are here and sometimes they have gone back through
the door. Sometimes they just land someplace in the house and show up in unexpected places. They even leave special
treats for the children who visit us. I hope they are here when Mabel and Oliver get here. I caught a picture of them when they were visiting this morning. Annie and Jack want to touch them but if they did they may not come back so they just look. Of course they won't move as long as someone is looking at them.
Our fairies bring blessings to our house and good surprises.

Sunday was a good day. The Matthew Parker's came for dinner as they always do on the first Sunday of the month. We have such fun with the four of them. Annie got her favorite desert which is Dibs ice cream and we had fried chicken, corn on the cob and potato salad. Also made fresh strawberry pie and a bananna cocoanut cream pie. The "faries" Charley and Liley were here and they kept flying around and Jack and Annie discovered they were gone from their usual place and had to go and find them. On my next blog I will post the picture of the fairy door and the faries. They come to visit often and bring good wishes and blessings on all that enter the house. It is fun for Annie and Jack and when Mabel and Oliver come next week they will get to see them too. Just wish you all lived closer so that you could share our Sunday dinners once a month. Sadie was so sweet and I am sure will gow to fast. Babies just don't last forever.
